Visiting Medical Student Electives
The Department of Family Medicine offers several electives for visiting medical students. For information on how to apply please visit this link.
Family Medicine: This two- or four-week elective provides an in-depth Family Medicine elective experience caring for patients mainly within the outpatient setting of our Family Care Center. Students can expect significant individual contact with Family Medicine residents and faculty. Students also participate in teaching rounds, conferences, home visits, and nursing home rounds. Students on a four-week elective gain exposure to the Family Medicine inpatient team as well as our MCH service. Prerequisites: Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatric Clerkships.
Primary Care Sports Medicine: Designed to focus on increasing musculoskeletal exam skills, this four-week Primary Care Sports Medicine elective takes place primarily in local college training rooms where athletes are often seen before and after practices and events. Students will work with family physicians, and are encouraged to spend time in the training rooms with the certified athletic trainers.
