Diversity in Medicine Visiting Student Scholarship

This program is an opportunity for qualified underrepresented (URM*) students to participate in clinical electives in the Department of Family Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The Brown Family Medicine Residency Program ACGME accredited since 1976 is dedicated to educating the next generation of family physicians to provide high quality healthcare for all, especially the most vulnerable and underserved, and to be leaders in health care delivery, medical education, research and advocacy.

We offer two different fourth year electives. Our Family Medicine Sub-I (FM 3583) is based at Miriam Hospital, one of the premier Brown University teaching hospitals.  The other elective is our FM 5820, an outpatient Patient Centered Medical Home elective based in our Family Medicine Resident/Faculty Clinic in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  The medical home for over 12,000 patients, our Family Care Center serves an ethnically and socio-economically diverse community that includes many who have immigrated from Latin America, Cape Verde, Portugal and West Africa.

Participants will interact with family medicine residents and faculty and will receive mentorship from the members of the Brown Minority Housestaff Association (BMHA).
