Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
School of Engineering, Brown University, Providence, RI

The School of Engineering at Brown University is seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position to work in the area of mechanics of energy storage materials. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science or a related area. The position is supported by the DOE EPSCoR center at Brown University on understanding failure modes in lithium ion battery materials. Successful candidate will join a team of researchers at Brown and Argonne National Laboratory. The projects involve nano-X ray tomography imaging and high spatial resolution X ray diffraction of lithium ion battery electrode materials to understand mechanical degradation modes and to optimize electrode microstructures. The project aims to use the synchrotron facility at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory for experimental characterization. There will be opportunities to collaborate with computational and theoretical modelers as well. The DOE EPSCoR Implementation program is a multi-institution and multi-disciplinary research program led by Brown University, focused on fundamental understanding of mechanical and chemical degradation mechanisms in energy storage materials. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV to Prof. Pradeep R. Guduru by email at [email protected]. (Posted: 03/21/2012)
