The position of liaison to Asian American
Students in the Office of Student Life was created in the summer of
1996 after Asian American students identified the need for additional
University support and services. In the fall of 1996, Kisa Takesue '88,
was hired as an Assistant Dean and her duties include providing
programming for Asian American students. She is available to meet with
individual students or student organizations for a wide variety of
questions and concerns.
Kisa Takesue graduated from Brown in 1988 and received an
A.B. in American Civilization, specializing in Asian American Studies.
As an undergraduate student, she served as a Women Peer Counselor
for three years and was involved in a wide variety of campus activism.
She received her Master's in Social Work from the University of
Texas at Austin and worked as a medical social worker in both hospital
and community settings. She also worked at a non-profit agency that
provided drop-out prevention services to pregnant and parenting
teenagers. She grew up in Hawaii and Western Massachusetts.
Andrew Ahn
is a member of the class of 2008 and is concentrating in Biology and
English. As one of the Asian/Asian American Student Programmers for
2007-2008, Andrew helps organize and direct the Pan-Asian Council
(PAC), a group consisting of representatives from the 15 different
Asian/Asian American student groups on campus. Andrew has been active
in the Asian/Asian American community in the past, serving as President
of the Chinese Students Association from 2006 to 2007 and as
co-coordinator of the 2005 East Asian Culture Show. Andrew is also the
Editor-in-Chief of the Liber Brunensis, Brown's yearbook.
Caitlin Ho is a member of the class of 2010 and hopes
to concentrate in Public Policy and Ethnic Studies. As one of the
Asian/Asian American Student Programming Assistants, she serves as
managing editor for VISIONS, a literary art publication that opens a space
for Asian and Asian American voices and perspectives. Caitlin is proud to
be part of the Asian/Asian American and Third World
Student Community at Brown. She is a Minority Peer Counselor who
lives with first year students and gives campus diversity workshops
and has coordinated panel discussions on topics
of identity for Asian/Asian American History Month.
Yang Long is a member of the class of 2008 and is
concentrating in Biology. As one of the
Programming Assistants, she manages the website and the Asian/Asian American
Student Resource Center, which is rich in history and culture. Yang can be found in the lab slaving away
over her thesis or around campus giving a tour to prospective students and parents. She is also a member of the Asian American
Students Association and is involved with the Minority Peer Counselor
Program.
Soyoung Park
(abroad) is a member of the class of 2009 and is concentrating in
Sociology. She is one of the Asian American Student Program Assistants,
working as supervisor of the Asian/ Asian American Student Resource
Center in the TWC as well as the key fundraiser for VISIONS, Brown's
Asian American Publication. When not serving as webmaster for this
Website, Soyoung sings in the all-female a cappella group, the Brown's
Tones. In addition, she is a proud member of Brown's Lion Dance team
and a volunteer for the Korean Adoptee Mentor Program. Soyoung
participates as well in the Korean American Student Association.
