Buckling instability and creasing instability are two different mechanical instability modes. The observation of a mode depends on many factors, such as loading conditions, materials and geometries. In the presentation, we will discuss the geometric effects on the selection of instability mode. With the change of the geometry of a structure, one mode may transit to another. Analytical results will be presented for a uniaxially compressed elastomeric block and a void in an elastomer under internal tension.
