The deformation of Silly Putty is significantly affected by strain rate due to its visco-elastic nature. When deformed slowly (low strain rate), it undergoes ductile fracture with great plastic deformation. At high strain rate, it exhibits the brittle fracture. Understanding of this phenomenon is important as some biopolymers like microtubule behaves similarly. Here, molecular dynamics study is performed using LAMMPS package to model this behavior. The simple model can be extended to study complex biological structures.
