Ip THEORY EXTENDED TO THREE DIMENSIONS

VIJAY UKADGAONKER (IIT BOMBAY)

Crack initiation and growth: methods, applications, and challenges

Wed 1:30 - 2:50

Barus-Holley 161

In theory for fracture initiation, which was proposed by Ukadganker is now recognised for two dimensions for static problems as well as fatigue loading at room temperatures and at elevated temperatures, has now being extended to three dimensions. Surprisingly Ip still remains equivalent to difference of square of First Stress Invariant and twice the Second Stream Invariant. The only difference in that two stress Invariants are now in three dimensions. The Crack still initiates along maximum Ip value calculated along the elasto-plastic surface boundary along the crack front and in the directions of maximum Ip.
