Do you know Richard Walton? Well, of course you don't! (He's a writer/journalist living in Providence who has been a career-long contributer to the NewPaper, Phoenix, and Providence Journal.)
One of the community figures interviewed for the 30th anniversary issue of the Phoenix, Walton praised the paper for its liberal format: “It {the NewPaper} and its successor, the Phoenix, allowed me and many other writers to do pieces that could not be published elsewhere. And they helped keep the Journal on its toes, although that once-fine paper is diminishing before our eyes as so many good people leave.”
