This cover story draws the community's attention to the steep decline in ticket sales for creative events in-and-around Providence. As in the "Down and Out at Thanksgiving" article, this article looks at the national financial crisis through a local lens. The article is of immediate relevance to its audience because the community's unwillingness to invest in cultural events has been the cause of creative organizations' financial trouble. "Culture Crunch" is as much a description of a pressing situation as it is a call to action for consumers of the arts.
