In the nineteenth century American Spiritualists began to bring the Ouija board into everyday life. In the mid 1880's a pair of sisters from New York had several spiritual encounters using a Ouija board and began the spiritualist revolution. They traveled the coast spreading their new religion and the popularity of the Ouija board began to increase. (Horrowitz, 70)
