In 1966 Parker Brothers Toy Company bought the rights to the Ouija Board. Within the first year of sales the Ouija board outsold Monopoly with over 2.3 million boards sold. This boost in sales came during the Vietnam war. The Ouija board was advertised as a device that gave answers which were much sought after during this time of uncertainty. (Orbanes, 145)
