The human consciousness wants to believe that that Ouija messages are coming from the spirits for 4 reasons.
1. Messages from spirits carry more authority.
2. People like others to make decisions for them.
3. If one can communicate with spirits they acquire significantly more attention.
4. People want to believe in life after death.
These, according to Freud, are why people believe that their subconscious actions, like dreams, psychosomatic illness, or sleepwalking, are attributed to other worldly entities. (Hunt, 9)
