In 622 and after the maltreatment and pain that the Quraysh tribe imposed on the Muslims in Mecca, the prophet Muhammad and his supporters emigrated to Yathrib, which was then renamed Medina. The year of the Hijra was considered the beginning of the Islamic calendar under the rule of Omar Ibn El-Khattab in 638.
