Contexts Under Construction!
Background information is vital to understanding the history of the John Brown House, the formation of the archaeological record, and also provides important interpretive clues for understanding the material culture that we are excavating. Constructing this information relies on several different media sources, from historical documents and maps, to contemporary video recordings. All of these sources will be gathered together in our final site report, and all will become permanent parts of the John Brown House archaeological site’s archive.
Working in groups of two (and one group of three), you will be assigned one of the following projects. Each project is distinct, but each will entail hands-on research with primary documents or documentation processes. The projects are to be posted on the wiki or completed (dvd or .mov format for video) by section during Week 6 – Thursday October 23rd.
Please only submit one copy of each project per group. Please see the Grading Criteria, which are posted at the bottom of this page. Also, plan your research time in advance – many of these libraries and offices operate on restricted hours.
Project 1: Interactive Contexts | Digital Media (Kellie and Whitney)
Project 2: Landscape Contexts | Maps (Evie and Maggie)
