Brown’s Ties to Africa
Focus on Africa is an ongoing series of activities, programs, and events that builds upon the diverse academic and cultural ties between Brown University and African nations. These ties range from formal study abroad programs to investigating environmental pollutants and food supply problems, from establishing joint collaborative research projects to building infrastructure for AIDS orphans, from enabling better physician training to bringing together major writers and provocative African filmmakers. Through these activities and more, Brown is helping build capacity within Africa to support innovative scholarship and policy-relevant research activities. At the same time, the University is highlighting the artistic, literary, philosophical, and political contributions of Africans. Focus on Africa strengthens Brown’s position as a global university of excellence.
