Resumed Undergraduate Education

Each year, a small number of students 25 years of age or older are admitted to Brown through the Resumed Undergraduate Education Program (RUE).  Students accepted into the program plan on completing a college degree at Brown and have not studied at a high school or college for the previous five years.  Depending on how much transfer credit they present from their previous institution(s), RUE students begin their study at Brown anywhere from semester 1 to semester 5.  Because RUE students often have full-time jobs or family obligations, they may be granted permission to study part-time at Brown.

Students apply for admission to the RUE Program when they apply for admission to the University.  Students are accepted into the program only at the time of admission; Brown students admitted as first-year or transfer applicants do not qualify for the program.

Admitted RUE students participate in the standard orientation activities for incoming students along with special sessions that address RUE student needs.  Each RUE student is assigned an academic advisor who assists them in constructing a course of study that will lead to degree completion.  Throughout the academic year, the Dean of the College sponsors gatherings that enable RUE students to meet current and incoming RUE students and to consult with academic deans and other administrative staff.  Requests for applications or brochures about the Resumed Undergraduate Education Program may be made to Brown's Admission Office.
