Transfer Students
In September and January of each year, Brown welcomes transfer students from institutions all over the country and across the world. Transfer students usually enter Brown at levels between Semester 3 and Semester 5, depending on how much transfer credit they present from their previous institution(s). With the exception of those who enter Brown as fifth semester juniors, transfer students declare their areas of concentration as Brown sophomores. During their junior year, transfer students delve into their chosen areas of study, build relationships with faculty, and plan for a senior thesis project or apply for fellowships.
Incoming transfer students participate in Transfer Student Orientation, which takes place in the fall and in the spring for students entering at those times. Once on campus, incoming transfer students meet with academic advisors to discuss their course selection for the semester and their longer-range academic plans. Transfers are encouraged to consult with additional faculty and deans in planning a program of study and when selecting their concentration. Current transfer students serve as peer advisors to incoming transfer students and plan a number of activities to facilitate their transition to Brown.
Transfer students who wish to discuss their academic program may speak with their academic advisors; Dean Maitrayee Bhattacharyya and Dean Besenia Rodriguez, the deans for transfer students; or any of the academic deans in University Hall. Deans hold open hours Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Requests for transfer applications may be made to Brown's Admission Office.
