Auditing Courses

Auditing a course allows a student the opportunity to take a course without any grade notation on the transcript.  An audit is a course registration at Brown, which means that it appears on the transcript and counts as one of the courses on record in any given semester.  Regular tuition fees and enrollment policies apply.  Students may switch a course from audit to credit or credit to audit until mid-semester.  Check the Academic Calendar on the Registrar’s website for current deadlines.

Audits are at the discretion of the instructor, and instructors also have the authority to require students to complete assignments for audited courses.  Students are advised to consult with an academic dean about the desirability of auditing a course.
