Registering for Courses
Course registration is a two-fold process at Brown. During pre-registration periods in October and April, enrolled students consult with academic advisors and register online for the following semester's courses. Incoming students register for courses just before the start of a given semester. The pre-registration period is a time for planning, for looking ahead to concentration requirements, and for contemplating longer-range plans. During the first two weeks of each semester, students may drop and add courses using the on-line registration system. This period, often referred to as "shopping," is a time when students choose courses that best fit their educational values and goals. During pre-registration and the first two weeks of the semester, ample time is set aside for consulting with academic advisors.
Pre-Registering for Fall 2008 Courses
The advising period for fall semester course selection begins Monday, April 7, and ends Friday, April 18. Students should set up an appointment with their academic advisors during this period of time to discuss their course selection for next semester. First-semester students will need PIN's from their advisors in order to register.
Registration for fall semester classes starts at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, and ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29. Current semester standing determines when a student may begin to register. Once a student has access to online registration, he or she may register for the duration of the registration period.
- April 22, 8 a.m.: 6th and 7th semester students begin registering
- April 23, 8 a.m.: 4th and 5th semester students begin registering
- April 24, 8 a.m.: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd semester students begin registering
