Romer Advising Prize
The success of the Brown curriculum depends on the success of our advising system. The Karen T. Romer Prize for Undergraduate Advising was created in 2004 to recognize and reward excellence in advising by Brown faculty. The prize is justly named for a former Associate Dean of the College--and legendary figure at Brown--who was a creative and passionate advocate for undergraduate education.
Each year a cash award of $5000 is given to two faculty members whose advising of Brown undergraduates represents the same creativity and dedication as Romer herself demonstrated during her years of service. Past recipients have included Profs. Terry-Morgan (Africana Studies), Chudacoff (History), Pucci (Classics), Tullis (Geological Sciences), Garcia-Coll (Education) Elliot (Sociology). In 2007, the winners were Prof. Michael Vorenberg of the Department of History, and Prof. Evelyn Lincoln from the Department of the History of Art and Architecture.
A request for nominations goes out to faculty and students every March, and winners are selected by a committee of students, faculty, and administrators. The prizes are awarded at a special ceremony in April. For further information about the award please contact
Barbara Sardy in the Office of the Dean of the College.
