Child Development in Context

Welcome to the child development in context Research program

The Child Development in Context Research Program is a division of the Center for the Study of Human Development and an extention of the Education Department at Brown University. Our research team is commited to providing accessible and innovative research on developmental outcomes of multi-cultural youth growing up in the US.

Major questions explored in our reserach are:

  • How do bicultural and monocultural students structure and use their ethnic and cultural identities?
  • How do early academic outcomes of immigrant youth relate to later trajectories?
  • How does each generation of immigrant youth (ie. first, second, third) fare in US schools?
  • How do peer, school, family, and neighborhood contexts support or hinder the educational, behavioral, and health outcomes of immigrant youth in the US?

Our current research project is entitled "Documenting and Understanding the Immigrant Paradox". Learn more...
