BBC Radio 4 Paul Morley presents a new program, Archive On 4: Anthony Burgess - A Clockwork Archive, about Anthony Burgess. Senior Lecturer and Director of Orchestras and Chamber Music, Paul Phillips, will be interviewed.
Considered the leading authority on the music of composer-novelist Anthony Burgess, Phillips is a featured commentator in the BBC television documentary The Burgess Variations and the author of writings published in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Portraits of the Artist in A Clockwork Orange, and Anthony Burgess and Modernity. His book A Clockwork Counterpoint: The Music and Literature of Anthony Burgess was published in 2010 by Manchester University Press. His essay “Burgess and Music” is anthologized in the new Norton Critical Edition of A Clockwork Orange, also published in 2010. In June 2011, Phillips was named an Honorary Patron of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester, England.
