Date:
Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Location:
Kasper Multipurpose Room, Robert Center
Speakers:
Evgeny Morozov and Clay Shirky The Internet has facilitated the spread of democracy, enabling billions to access and disseminate more information than ever before. However, it has also been utilized to restrict, manipulate, and censor information more effectively than ever before. This lecture seeks to explore the social and political impacts of the World Wide Web and its effect. Specifically, does it aid democracies and authoritarian regimes alike? Is the Internet a democratizing technology?
