Alix Sobler

2011 She's Not There


Alix Sobler is a writer/performer originally from New York, now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has been writing and performing solo shows all over North America since 2002 and is a Fringe Festival Veteran having performed in more than 20 Festivals. Solo shows include: My House is on Fire, Flavor of the Week, America vs. Canada, The Cloud Factory and Jason Neufeld is Impotent, which was included in last year’s inaugural Minneapolis Jewish Humor Festival. Her play Some Things You Keep made its world premiere at Winnipeg Jewish Theatre in April 2010 and Manitoba Theatre Centre presented a reading of her play The Golem as part of the Carol Shields Festival of New Works in the fall of 2010. Her other work has been produced across North America at theatres including The Tank (NYC), Lookingglass Theatre (NYC), Elmwood Playhouse (Nyack, NY), and Intrepid Theatre (Victoria, BC). Her comedy can often be heard on CBC Radio’s Definitely Not the Opera. She has received grants from the Winnipeg Arts Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, and the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba to support her writing. She is a member of the Playwright’s Unit at Prairie Theatre Exchange and she has taught acting, improvisation, musical theatre and even claymation to students ages three and up. She was proud to have recently coordinated marketing and communications for the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada 2010 campaign (ARTS FOR ALL). She is a graduate of Brown University.
