A week to raise awareness about eating disorders and promote positive body image on campus.
Events sponsored by Brown Health Education in collaboration with Brown Psychological Services, Brown Recreation,
Lifespan Hospital, and the Yoga and Mindfulness (YAM) student group.
Mirror, Mirror, Reflections on Body Image:
Starting Monday 2/24 thru Friday 2/28, mirrors will be covered in select locations in the campus center and fitness center as a reminder that who you are is more important than what you look like. So take a break from worrying about the reflection in the mirror, and instead use this week to appreciate who you are and all your body can do.
Concerned about food, weight, or body image?
A free and anonymous eating disorder self-assessment from the National Eating Disorders Association is available at www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/online-eating-disorder-screening. This screening takes only a few minutes, and can be an important first step to encourage students to get connected with campus resources. Click here for a list of campus resources.
Health Education Information/Affirmation Table:
Get your daily dose of positive self-talk during Celebrate Every Body Week! Health Education will have an information table in the Sharpe Refectory during lunch on Tuesday (2/25) and Thursday (2/27) from 11:30-1:30pm, so stop by to pick up free buttons, awareness bracelets, and a feel-good affirmation as a reminder to appreciate, nourish and respect your body this week—and every week. There will also be information about eating disorders, body image, and the campus resources available to students with these concerns.
Celebrate Every Body themed Yoga Classes:
In honor of Celebrate Every Body Week, the Yoga and Mindfulness (YAM) student group will be dedicating a full week of classes (2/24-2/28) to appreciation, celebration, and exploration of the body. Delight in the body and its grace, while finding the fullness of our practice as a meeting point between the physical and the spiritual. We will come together as a positive community as we soar through vigorous and soothing practices. Find a class that fits your interest. Classes are free with a suggested donation of $2. Zumba Dance Party

Location: OMAC dance studio
Join us as we shake the fun back into fitness with an exhilarating, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance party. No previous dance experience required, so feel free to let loose! Glow sticks, awareness bracelets AND free workout towels will be given out to every participant! This event is FREE and open to all students as a part of Celebrate Every Body Week.
“I had no idea…” Understanding our relationship to food, body, and self
Wednesday February 26, 2014:
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Location: Wilson 102
Join us for a panel discussion that will address common questions related to eating disorders, weight concerns, body image, and the impact these issues can have on college students. Featured panelists include Dr. Cynthia Ellis from Brown Psychological Services, Natalie Monaghan, LICSW in private practice, and Dr. Diane DerMarderosian from Lifespan hospitals. Annie Buffington, Registered Dietitian from Brown Health Services and Caitlin Taylor ’14 will facilitate the discussion. Receive a FREE “celebrate every body” towel and awareness bracelet just for attending! The event is free and doors open at 6:15pm. There will be a Q&A session (with an opportunity to submit anonymous questions) following the discussion.
