Celebrate Every Body Week:
Feb 25 – March 1, 2013

ALL WEEK:
Health Education Information/Affirmation Table:
Get your daily dose of positive self-talk during Celebrate Every Body Week! Health Education will have an Information Table at select locations on campus, so stop by to pick up free buttons, sticky note supplies to support Operation Beautiful, and a feel-good affirmation as a reminder to practice kindness towards your body this week. There will also be informational handouts about eating disorders, body image, and the campus resources available to students with eating concerns.
Find us at the following locations:
Monday (2/25) The Nelson Fitness Center (11:30am-1:30pm)
Tuesday (2/26) The Sharpe Refectory (11:30am - 1:30pm)
Wednesday (2/27) The Nelson Fitness Center (11:30am-1:30pm)
Thursday (2/28) The Sharpe Refectory (11:30am - 1:30pm)
Operation Beautiful:
Promote positive self-talk and a healthy body image, one sticky note at a time!
The mission of Operation Beautiful is to post anonymous notes that are positive, kind and inspiring in public places for other people to find. Then what? Post your pictures and tag Brown Health Education in them when you “like” us on Facebook. The photos will be compiled and featured on the Health Education Facebook page throughout Celebrate Every Body Week. Learn more at operationbeautiful.com and pick up sticky notes at our information table all week!

The Great Jeans Giveaway:
Empower yourself to feel comfortable in your genes by giving away jeans - or any clothes - that may not fit comfortably. Designated boxes for donations* will be in the lobby of J. Walter Wilson and The Sharpe Refectory all week, February 25-March 1. Donate at any time or stop by the Health Education table during lunch at The Ratty between 11:30am-1:30pm on Tuesday (2/26) and Thursday (2/28) to receive a free workout towel in return for your donation!
*PLEASE DONATE CLEAN AND GENTLY USED CLOTHES ONLY (shoes and other non-clothing items will not be accepted). All clothes will be donated to Rhode Island area charities.
Celebrate Every Body themed Yoga Classes:
In honor of Celebrate Every Body Week, the Brown Yoga and Mindfulness Club (YAM) will be dedicating a full week of classes (Feb 25-March 1) to appreciation, celebration, and exploration of the body. Delight in the body and its grace, while finding the fullness of our practice as a meeting point between the physical and the spiritual. We will come together as a positive community as we soar through vigorous and soothing practices. Find a class that fits your interest. Classes are free with a suggested donation of $2. All classes held in Brown-RISD Hillel.

SPECIAL EVENTS EACH DAY:
Monday February 25:
6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Art Inside: Health At Every Size in Salomon 001
Health At Every Size® is based on the simple premise that the best way to improve health is to honor your body. Join Anne Buffington, Registered Dietitian at Health Services, as she creatively uses music and metaphor to appreciate the body from a fresh perspective. This presentation will challenge popular health messages about weight and leave you feeling encouraged to build a better relationship with food and your body. Light snacks will be served as well as free guitar picks, buttons, and workout towels available to all who attend the presentation! Any questions, please contact Annie Buffington at Anne_Buffington@brown.edu.
Tuesday February 26:
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Mind and Body: When does healthy eating become disordered eating? in Wilson 102
What is your definition of a healthy relationship with food? What draws disordered eating behaviors out in college? How do the social aspects of food affect the development of eating disorders? Join Student Volunteers for The Samaritans of Rhode Island (SVTSRI) and Brown Health Services for a student-moderated panel discussion on eating disorders and the culture around eating at college. Featured panelists include: Anne Buffington, Registered Dietitian at Brown Health Services, Laura Reuter of the Britton Mindfulness Lab, and Dr. Emily Spurrel a clinical psychologist. There will be a Q&A session (with an opportunity to submit anonymous questions) followed by a reception with light snacks.
