Managing High Stress Situations

Managing collective trauma, anxiety, and high-stress situations can be uniquely challenging. However, you're not alone, and there are valuable tools and resources to empower you. The list below is not an exhaustive list but rather a reminder of some of the resources that are available and often complementary to some of the strategies you may already use. 

Online Resources to Use on Your Own Time (free all students undergrad, grad and med)

In-person and Zoom Groups (for all students undergrad, grad and med)

  • Any group can request BWell’s 'Essential Skills for Student Leaders' workshops at go.brown.edu/bwellworkshop.
  • CAPS Anxiety Toolbox: 3-session workshop on understanding stress and anxiety and ways to manage it. Learn more at caps.brown.edu/programs-outreach/workshops.
  • Prayers for an Aching World: starting monthly on November 15, 12 - 13:30 pm, Manning Chapel (2nd floor of Manning Chapel; enter from the Quiet Green). A meditative multi-faith and spiritual time of prayer. https://chaplains.brown.edu/
  • BWell Restorative Yoga: every Sunday at 3pm, Health & Wellness, 450 Brook St., Room 195. No registration needed.
  • Brown Recreation offers over 60 classes each week, designed for all fitness levels to have fun and get fit. Be sure to check out their website and group fitness schedule for more details. 
  • The Restorative Justice team, a joint venture between Campus Life and the College, is offering restorative circles to offer a space for processing and healing in community. 

Individual In-person and Zoom Sessions

For All Students (undergrad, grad and med)

  • Chaplains’ Office Hours are times for weekly drop-in meetings and conversation. Available in person or by zoom. If you are unable to stop by during office hours you can contact chaplains directly to set an appointment - chaplains.brown.edu/about/who-we-are

For Undergraduates

  • First-year undergraduates - Meik Leader Open Hours are a time for you to talk with another student who can connect you with information and resources when you don’t know where to start. Stop by the Rock lobby on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays or email [email protected]. You can also follow us and get the support you need on Instagram @meiklegram.   • Brown’s Academic Advising Deans are available to discuss a wide range of topics that intersect with students’ academic lives, intellectual focus, co-curricular interests, and anything in between.   • Residential Undergraduates - Residential Life’s Office Hours are times for weekly drop-in meetings and conversations. Available in person and by Zoom. Click to view Office Hours.
  • Student Support Services works with students who may be experiencing a wide range of complex or complicated situations that disrupt their potential to thrive at Brown, especially those who need support connecting with a coordinated set of resources or navigating systems.  Students may call 401-863-3145 or email [email protected] to set up an appointment with a Support Dean.

For Graduate Students
