first pick competition

Do You Think You Deserve the Best Room on Campus? Has the lottery been unfair to you in the past? Do you have the talent that can win you first pick in the housing lottery?

The Residential Council invites you to participate in the annual first pick competition to possibly walk away with the best room on campus. Enter as a group of 1-12 students by handing in a video clip up to 3.5 minutes long showing us why you would deserve the best room on campus. Every person in your first pick group must somehow be involved in the video. Videos are due Thursday, Feburary 11th at 11:59 pm.

Want to have the first opportunity to vote on the videos? Come to the First Pick Competition Screening, to be held the evening of February 18, 2010 in Sayles Hall. You will also get a chance to see the submitted videos and vote on who deserves to win! Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Email lottery@brown.edu for any questions.

rules

Here are some official rules (and a couple of general guidelines) by which all should abide. Any entry that breaks any rule listed below is subject to being disqualified at the sole discretion of the Residential Council.

  1. Both individual and group entries are allowed. Groups can consist of anywhere from 1 to 12 students. All members of the group must be students who are eligible to pick in the 2009 Housing Lottery (i.e. no program house or fraternity members) and all members must be involved somehow in the creation of the video.
  2. Each group, when sending in the video clip, must also submit the full names, class years, email addresses, and Brown IDs of each member.
  3. All submissions must be received by ResCouncil (lottery@brown.edu) by Thursday, February 11th at 11:59 pm.
  4. All video entries must be no longer than 3.5 minutes. They must be high quality digital files.
  5. Any submission is subject to being disqualified for containing or depicting content deemed inappropriate by either the Residential Council or the Office of Residential Life.
  6. All entries will be judged by votes both online and at the screening session. All Brown undergraduates may vote both times.
  7. By submitting your entry, you give ResCouncil and the Office of Residential Life permission to post it and your name on the websites of either entity at the discretion of ResCouncil.
  8. PLEASE NOTE: All University Rules and Regulations must be upheld when creating these videos. Behaviors in the video or surrounding the making of a video may not: interrupt or disturb classes, endanger self or others, portray or promote underage drinking or substance abuse, or use weapons or indicate violence towards members of the Brown community.
