Residential Council Minutes :: September 20, 2005

  1. Elie Rosen and Ted Brown, two alternates, have resigned.
  2. There will be a forum to discuss program houses this semester
  3. Katie: Four different options for changing card access
    1. Universal Card Access
    2. Universal freshman access
      1. access to all freshman dorms
      2. increase sense of community among freshmen
    3. Regional card access
    4. Friend to friend system
      1. Elaborate system of lists with hope of no stalking
      2. Friend would request access for other people
    5. Hegeman/Caswell access can be automatic
  4. Debate about pros/cons of universal card access
    1. build sense of community from the start with freshmen
    2. problems with vandalism
    3. people can more easily drop by a room
    4. lost card on a friday night problem
    5. this is not a problem if we teach people to lock their doors
    6. when common furniture is stolen, can't bill the unit
    7. some of the program houses do not want random people in their space without being invited
    8. there aren't enough logical regions to give access
    9. justin: all of pembroke; grad center, new dorm, barbour; hope, littlefield, wayland
    10. start grouping freshmen regions, because some don't have the right amenities like lounges
    11. people would come and use amenities like bathrooms that don't belong to them
    12. often, freshmen aren't happy in their unit at first
  5. For next week, think about alternatives to card access
