Residential Council Minutes :: September 20, 2005

Present: Adam Axler, Benjamin Boas, Kyle Evans, Justin Glavis-Bloom, Brendan Hargreaves, Tal Itzkovich, James Kaplowitz, Jennifer Kuo, Allison Kwong, Katherine Lamm, Damian Maldonado, Michael Morgenstern, David Pacheco, Laura Supkoff,

Absent:

  1. Danielle Hamilton has resigned, Adam Axler promoted to voting member
  2. Lottery committee
    1. we may have to get rid of video competition
    2. discussed changes to the lottery
    3. using technology is better for the lottery
    4. more transparency on the waitlist is a priority
  3. Program house committee
    1. They are waiting on reslife for gridding and info about spaces for houses
  4. Policy committee
    1. There was no meeting
    2. Maintenence issues
  5. Universal card access discussion:
    1. Ben reccomends meeting with UCS members
    2. Zac Townsend suggests limited hours on universal access
  6. Primary goals: convenience and friend-building
    1. convenience is upperclassman concern, friend-building is freshman concern
  7. Ideas:
    1. connecting phones to locks
      1. helps upperclassmen, convenience issue
      2. is it feasible? what does it cost?
    2. freshman universal access
      1. will help friend-building
      2. may cost nothing if card things can handle it
    3. universal card access
      1. some are still in favor of it
      2. security risks remain
      3. we all agree that anybody can get into any dorm, as is
    4. regional card access
      1. what are the regions?
        1. pembroke, young o, main green, giving other students access to keeney
      2. it is more of a fix for a few card access zones, but is not a plan for the entire campus
  8. Ben's spoke about appointments
    1. he is responsible to keep ResCouncil accountable to UCS
    2. committee chairs will make presentations to UCS at least once per semester
