Residential Council Minutes :: February 21, 2006

  2. Policy
    1. Send Katie your schedules
  3. Program House
    1. Martial Arts House withdrew application
    2. Film house, based on a conversation between Tal and Rosario, they and Rich Bova decided to focus on cooking house
    3. Cooking house preliminarily approved.
    4. ResLife will post official Fall Review scores and discuss why houses failed with houses
    5. If houses do not improve, suggestion to take away social rooms
  4. First Pick Competition
    1. Very few entries, not that publicized yet
    2. Signs are on Flat Screen
  5. Lottery
    1. Web page updated and prettier
    2. We need more people to sign up for dorm tours.
    3. Post these things as Jolt events
    4. Rich Bova's Decisions
      1. NP1 is Sophomore Only
      2. All of Grad Center D is Sophomore Only
      3. Special-interest housing:
        1. Once they have selected pre-lottery housing they will be notified of what area on campus they will live, and have the option to go into the lottery.
  6. Housing fair went very well, many groups were represented and there was a lot of traffic
  7. Where can we put Cooking House?
    1. We want to give them priority access to a kitchen without taking it away from independents
    2. They need a nice kitchen space.
    3. Use Wayland for it?
    4. Pro
      1. It used to be a program house space
      2. Kitchen can grow on Wriston
      3. We don't want to put them somewhere (Pembroke)where we know we will move them
        1. Freshman units change frequently
      4. Wayland is made as a program house.
    5. Con
      1. No division between program house and freshmen, limited to a very small space
      2. Very nice freshman housing
      3. They are unproven now, so why displace a freshman unit for them?
    6. NP2 an option
        1. 21 Beds, would have to shrink.
        2. Smaller facilities than Wriston
        3. Important to have exclusive access to a building
        4. Issue with parking spots, not near Power Street lot.
    7. Plantations house
      1. Good community
      2. No room for growth?
      3. Kitchen must be conducive to the size of the house (one oven for 30 people?)
        1. West House does well with a smaller kitchen
