Residential Council Minutes :: October 17, 2006

  1. Motion to excuse Jimmy's absence (on October 3, 2006) – Passed Unanimously
  2. Bike Policy
    1. a. Thea: Doesn’t seem like Brown’s policy --> doesn’t seem very flexible
    2. b. Michael: For permanent policy, we’d like to have all the bikes registered
    3. c. Laura: how about making requests to register bikes?
    4. d. Alex: Merits for people who register their bikes?
    5. e. Christine: Permanent policy, people will be more accepting about it; not have outcry each year
    6. f. Getting rid of few bikes each year?
    7. g. Punitive approach vs. positive approach?
    8. h. Tags on is like getting registration sticker for car
    9. i. Are we worried about someone cutting of all the tabs?
    10. j. Temporary Policy for Registration Purposes and Permanent Policy for general rules
    11. k. What is the level of personal responsibility of residents in removing bikes
    12. l. Email reminder
    13. m. Implementing alternate way of registration?
    14. n. Motion to pass policy – Passes: 16 Abstain: 1
  3. Program House Review
    1. a. What if events are happening later in semester? A: Contacts still needed, date, logistics need to be submitted
    2. b. 5:30-8:00 Mon Nov 6 --> we’ll be collecting folders from independents, ResLife, program houses, notify them of contents in the folder. Some will have to come in. All others will have option to come in. We’re going to decide recommendations during the meeting.
  4. Co-Ed Suites
    1. a. Top Floor Suites on Wriston --> Not co-ed cptional currently
    2. b. Trying to make them co-ed optional
    3. c. Motion to recommend that to ResLife – motion passes unanimously
  5. Cooking House
    1. a. Need storage room, need kitchen space, not having a lounge, crowded in kitchen
    2. b. Would another kitchen help? --> lots of stuff in kitchen
    3. c. Locking closet in kitchen
    4. d. Recommendation to reconsider locking cabinet for Cooking House
    5. e. ResLife cannot allow private locks because of people leaving food over break
    6. f. Lounge in D-Tau space not exclusive to them
  6. Quantifying the way they do housing for program houses
    1. a. Adding third class to program house system
    2. b. Right now our system encouraging them to not fail; positive rewards system of being able to move up to “Class C”
    3. c. They could get privileges --> if they want top suite, etc.
    4. d. Go to Rich Bova with proposal from us.
    5. e. Program House Committee Meeting will discuss this.
    6. f. Chairs email listserv about when they’re meeting with their committees.
