Residential Council Minutes :: March 13, 2007

Present: Alex Dean, Pete Donnelly, Mark Fuller, Justin Glavis-Bloom, Sri Kalyanaraman, Allison Kwong, Katie Lamm, Damian Maldonado, James Reed, Evan Stone, Chris Sunu, Laura Supkoff

  1. i. Helping houses run better rushes
    1. a. Submitting some sort of rush plan to Rescouncil to help get an idea of rush?
    2. b. "Rush is a living, breathing thing"
    3. c. You wouldnít be held to it. For places without established organisations, it gets you thinking about whatís going on.
    4. d. People in the house werenít willing to commit to doing rush
    5. e. Same rush events, different people each year; it depends on energy of people
    6. f. Program House Council being more of a resource for help?
    7. g. Tom: would getting the # of returning members from PHís be helpful?
      1. i. This would be taken care of by PH Committee chair
      2. ii. Weíre helping the underdogs
      3. iii. Some houses that are faltering, we can require them to submit rush plans
    8. i. Motion to pass amendment to look at returning members. Passes Unanimously
  2. ii. RPL Program
    1. a. Rosario --> donít make it CA-specific because we look at it as a whole
    2. b. Program specific training
      1. i. Specific info needed for each program (RC's, WPC's, CA's need specialised training)
    3. c. Run-through quickly all the stuff we discussed about in job description
      1. i. Rumour Control
      2. ii. Developing loc. for rec space
      3. iii. Assistance in conducting health and safety
      4. iv. Interests of residents IDíd?
      5. v. Programming Proposal recommendation
      6. vi. Require RPLs to meet in dorm
      7. vii. Personal Info on Public Display
      8. viii. Monthly meetings and penalties if it doesnít happen
    4. d. CPR training --> Should be available during training period
    5. e. Letís ask the general question: where is the program going? Is this program becoming RAs?
    6. f. Alcohol training for counselors?
    7. g. What is happening in training should match what the guidelines say
    8. h. Canít hold people accountable if you donít have anything to which you hold them accountable
    9. i. Effective Ĺ year RPLs? Efficiency of RPLs?
    10. j. Why did the walk-throughs stop? What is the role of DPS on campus?
      1. i. Need to be outside much more than inside --> their idea was to secure the campus from outsiders rather than people from the inside
      2. ii. RCís are important as counselors and serve a good function --> we shouldnít add the enforcement arm to them? would defeat the purpose
      3. k. Letís inquire about DPS
  3. iii. Mark excused for absence from meeting for Hazardous Waste training. Motion passed unanimously!
