Graduate Studies at Brown Department of Chemistry

Chemistry is a fascinating discipline that provides an essential link between the deep mysteries of fundamental science and everyday life. Research in Chemistry stretches from the exploration of physical phenomena of individual molecules, to the creation of new molecules, to material science, and indeed to the foundations of life. Here at Brown, the Department of Chemistry reflects this profound importance and diversity by offering excellent research opportunities in areas including organic and inorganic chemistry, chemical biology, analytical chemistry, nanochemistry and theoretical and experimental physical chemistry. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary research in molecular biology, chemical engineering, or in our newly founded Institute for Molecular and Nanoscale Innovation. Our faculty student ratio is approximately 3:1 with most research groups numbering no more than 6 graduate students.
