Costa Rica or Costa Gringa? Tracing the effects of amenity migration in Costa Rica’s coastal communities

This summer, my project partner Camila and I will study the effects of amenity migration in coastal communities in Costa Rica. Our project aims to understand and foreground the sentiments of locals towards the changes brought about in their communities by the increasing influx of affluent migrants and expose how local activists and organizations have responded to those changes. I look forward to exploring migration issues on the ground (as opposed to a purely academic lens), and I am excited by the opportunity to learn from people who are directly affected by this phenomenon in Costa Rica.

I am a member of the class of 2026, studying International and Public Affairs and Migration Studies at Brown University.
