This research investigates the critical crisis confronting the Maasai community in Tanzania, particularly in the Ngorongoro area, where government-led actions for trophy hunting and eco-tourism have forcibly displaced over 150,000 Maasai individuals. The study explores the repercussions of this displacement on Maasai culture and livelihoods and the community's resilience in adapting to life after traumatic evictions. Engaging with government officials, Maasai elders, human rights activists, and affected individuals, the research aims to compile a comprehensive report advocating for a just resolution that upholds the rights, traditions, and dignity of the Maasai people.

I am a member of the class of 2026 studying Applied Math-Economics. This summer, I will be carrying a research titled "Preserving Maasai Heritage: A Study on Forced Displacement in Tanzania". This research focuses on the crisis confronting the Maasai community in Tanzania, particularly in the Ngorongoro area, where government-led actions for trophy hunting and eco-tourism have forcibly displaced over 150,000 Maasai individuals. I look forward to explore the repercussions of this displacement on Maasai culture and livelihoods and the community's resilience in adapting to life after traumatic evictions. With the help of my mentor, Eric Garvin, I hope to engage government officials, human rights activists involved, affected people and write a research paper on the subject.
