Lecturer in Hispanic Studies
Seeking full-time specialist in the instruction of Spanish as a foreign language. Three year, renewable contract beginning July 1, 2016; eventual promotions possible. Native or near-native proficiency required. Ph.D. and specialization in Second Language Acquisition and language-teaching methodology preferred. We seek a candidate with dynamic language teaching skills, demonstrated excellence in various levels of Spanish instruction and expertise in technology-assisted instruction. Primary duties include teaching two language classes per semester, coordinating multiple-section language courses, and training and supervising Brown graduate student instructors plus teaching associates from abroad. Other responsibilities include curriculum development, administrative tasks and collaboration with other language faculty.
Required materials include: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, three confidential letters of recommendation, recent evaluations and a teaching portfolio including an original syllabus, two or three original samples of teaching materials, a link to a teaching video, if available, and a narrative describing your teaching philosophy and explaining how your materials are informed by your philosophy and experience.
