Here are some pictures of books that have very limited access. We had to specially request them from the librarian at the John Hay, and then we had to make an appointment to see them and wear gloves to turn the pages. This takes the idea of "temporary access" to the extreme.
The two books we looked at were an Audobon book (one in a series of six that show life sized drawings of birds and flora in North America) and the Kelmscott Chaucer book, which was a copy of Chaucer that was hand-bound, hand-printed, and individually designed.
