- Summarize what you think is the main argument (or couple of arguments) the author is making.
- Discuss how he justifies his argument. What types of methods/approaches does he use? How does he use the evidence from the Iliad or other sources to make his argument?
Consider such questions as:
- Do you agree with his thesis (or theses)? If so, what aspects do you find particularly persuasive? Why? If you do not agree with the argument (or parts of it), why not, what were its main weaknesses in your opinion?
- How could this approach or this argument be developed further? Do you think it could be effectively applied to other types of ancient material or literature? If so, where would you start? If not, why not?
Prepare to discuss a specific episode from the Iliad (or parts of the Odyssey we have read for class) in light of this author's arguments.
