Staff Spotlight: Steven Lewis

Describe briefly what you do and how long you have been at Brown.
I have been with Brown for 14 years. I work closely with our Facilities Management team to ensure our dorms are maintained and safe. I order furniture for dorm rooms and lounges. I also oversee the Key Office operations as well as Health and Safety inspections.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
It would have to be the relationships I have built around the Brown community. I believe this is valuable because it affords me the resources to make things happen for the students and staff in our buildings. Most people are more willing to help when you have a good working relationship.
What work projects most excite you?
I often refer to school openings as our Superbowl. It's the most challenging time for us in Reslife. I welcome the extra work and hours to ensure our dorms are the best they can be for the residents.
What are your home office must-haves?
We have had students on campus through the entire Pandemic so the Key Office has been open daily. But after hours when I'm home a comfy seat next to my Goldendoodle is where I work!
Name something about you most people don't know.
I raised my 32 yr old son as a single parent. He graduated at the top of his class with a Masters in English Writing. He is currently writing comedy, hoping to make it big!
If you weren't doing this job, what would you be doing?
If money weren't an object, probably playing golf. Visiting beautiful golf courses around the world would be a dream come true. But my golf game certainly would not pay the bills ;(
