Department of Chemistry

Facilities and Resources

The Chemistry Department facilities include fully equipped research laboratories, dedicated laboratories for NMR and Mass Spectrometry, radioisotope use, fully staffed chemistry stockroom, machine shop, and an electronics workshop, as well as classrooms and office space.

Locations

The Chemistry Department is located in the Geology-Chemistry Research Building ("GeoChem"), housing both the Departments of Chemistry and Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences.

W. Duncan MacMillan Hall, directly attached to the GeoChem research facility, houses state-of-the-art teaching labs for chemistry, geology, and environmental sciences, as well as two lecture auditoriums.

Faciltities

The Chemistry Department currently has three Bruker high field NMR spectrometers: one 600 Megahertz (MHz), and two 400 MHz instruments. In addition there are two 60 MHz Magritek Spinsolve NMR spectrometers equipped with autosamplers available for teaching.
The Mass Spectrometry Facility in the Chemistry Department provides support for the analysis of a wide range of molecules using mass spectrometry based techniques, including a suite of modern instrumentation.
The Department of Chemistry offers a full-service fabrication Machine Shop on the second floor of the GeoChem building.
The Electronics Workshop is utilized for repairing small electronic equipment and for custom design related to the department's research instrumentation.
The Chemistry Department Stockroom provides researchers with a convenient, user-friendly, and affordable system of accessing the materials needed to allow continuous research efforts. Please use the appropriate form when placing your order.
