Mentoring at Brown and Upcoming Deadlines

July 14th, 2017

Dear Incoming First-Years,

There are many ways to get guidance while at Brown. You will be paired with both a First-Year Advisor and a Meiklejohnn peer advisor, and these two people are the first ones to go to with questions about your academic life, and for other concerns as well. You will also have a Residential Peer Leader, and many other opportunities to opt-in for advice and mentoring. We have listed some mentoring programs below, but know that all of the things you do while at Brown will expose you to students and others who are available to help you navigate your path. In the meantime, explore these websites and know that we are eager to meet you!

  • ALANA - African American, Latino, Asian/Asian American, and Native American students, fostering meaningful interaction between students of color and mentors of color
  • IMP engages incoming undergraduates who identify as international, regardless of their legal status or place of residence
  • NSP:PAL provides mentoring to underrepresented minority (URM) students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concentrations
  • Personal Librarian - all incoming first years will be paired with a member of the library staff who will be in touch with you by email throughout your first year.
  • Renn connects lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer and questioning students with “out” LGBTQ faculty and staff mentors
  • WiSE and WiCS  - Women in Science & Engineering and Women in Computer Science
