Community Storytelling Fellowship

The Community Storytelling Fellowship (CSF) provides students with the opportunity to learn about ethical and responsible community storytelling, research ongoing community engagement work happening in Providence and Rhode Island, produce a form of storytelling and interact meaningfully with Swearer Center constituencies and community partners.

The application is open in UFunds until September 16 for the ‘24-’25 academic year.

Structure

The Community-Engaged Storytelling Fellowship (CES) seeks to harness the power of storytelling techniques to advance experiential learning, advocacy, activism and social change. CES is a one-year program that aims to bring together students, community organizers and local storytellers to co-create and share narratives that reflect the richness and diversity of Providence and Rhode Island and to explore the areas that are community-identified needs and priorities.

Required monthly cohort meetings provide opportunities for group reflection, peer feedback, and ongoing learning. Most monthly meetings will include guest speakers and presenters drawn from local and regional networks to provide skill-building workshops and offer real-world insights into community-engaged writing and research practices.

Fellows work closely with the Storytellers Staff Fellow, faculty, Swearer Center staff and community partners as appropriate.
