The Brown University Urban Education Policy program is pleased to partner with the following organizations:
City Year provides attendance monitoring and engagement, socio-emotional support, and math and English support to at-risk students. More than 3,000 City Year AmeriCorps members live and contribute their talents in 28 cities nationwide. City Year Providence deploys 50 highly skilled AmeriCorps members to serve in five local schools, positively impacting more than 3,800 students.
As a City Year partner, we offer City Year applicants an application fee waiver and, for those accepted to the program, guarantee a 25% tuition scholarship.
The UEP program has formed a unique partnership with the Rhode Island chapter of Teach for America. RI-TFA corp members that are accepted into Brown’s Urban Education Policy Program are able to complete their graduate degree over the course of five semesters while they continue to teach in their urban school districts. Over the course of the last six years, there have been 18 RI-TFA graduates from this prestigious program. RI-TFA Corp members are also eligible to apply for the Urban Education Fellowship.
Testimonial from TFA and UEP alumna Stephanie Primiani:
"I attended the Urban Education Policy (UEP) program at Brown after teaching for three years as a high school math teacher in Charlotte, NC with the Teach For America program. The UEP program gave me the skills I needed to have an expanded impact in urban education. I recently took a role as the Director of STEM at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy. In this role, I am responsible for all math and science curriculum, instruction, and assessments throughout the network. The quantitative and qualitative skills I learned during the UEP program have prepared me to succeed in this role and have an expanded impact on kids throughout Rhode Island."
