Humanities in the World

Director: Leela Gandhi, John Hawkes Professor of Humanities and English

Humanities in the World explores two avenues of inquiry: the global dimension of humanities scholarship, and the role of the humanities in society. Connected histories emphasize the flow of ideas across regions and localities, and showcase varied contexts for humanistic enterprise. Scholarship in the new humanities is grounded in questions of social justice and ethical accountability. Humanities in the World promotes cross-campus collaboration in such areas, and support important new work that expands the scope of the traditional humanities.

Events include lectures, workshops, colloquia, and conferences. Programs in the 2018–2019 academic year develop the international orientation of the Cogut Institute’s programming in partnership with the Centre for Contemporary South Asia.
