MUSC 1240L S01 [CRN: 17495]
This course foregrounds the concept of rhythm as it appears across disciplines from philosophy to ecology to neuroscience to media theory. We will explore what rhythm means in these contexts and how it relates to aesthetic practices in the sonic, visual, and digital arts. We will ask what are the ontologies, practices, and politics of non-object and processual-based means of being in the world. The course takes a hybrid theory/practice approach. Classes consist of reading and discussion of texts and exemplary artworks in seminar format. Students will produce projects that build toward “artistic research” in any medium for in-class critique.
