Biostatistics Spring Career Information Series

The Department of Biostatistics is pleased to host our Spring Career Information Series to students throughout the School of Public Health.  This series will provide information on careers outside of academics in a variety of industries.

Joseph C. Cappelleri, PhD, MPH
Senior Director of Biostatistics at Pfizer, Inc.
and Adjunct Associate Professor of Biostatistics, Brown’s Department of Biostatistics

Dr. Joseph C. Cappelleri earned his M.S. in statistics from the City University of New York (Baruch College), Ph.D. in psychometrics from Cornell University, and M.P.H. in epidemiology from Harvard University. In June 1996, he joined Pfizer Inc as a statistical scientist collaborating with Outcomes Research and is a senior director of biostatistics at Pfizer.

 Dr. Cappelleri is also an adjunct associate professor of biostatistics at Brown University, adjunct professor of statistics at the University of Connecticut, and adjunct professor of medicine at Tufts Medical Center. He has delivered numerous conference presentations and has published extensively on clinical and methodological topics, including regression-discontinuity designs, meta-analysis, and health measurement scales. Dr. Cappelleri is the lead author of the book "Patient-Reported Outcomes: Measurement, Implementation and Interpretation.”

 Dr. Cappelleri will be sharing information on a career in pharmaceutical industry.

John Young, Senior Vice President
Epsilon Corporation

Mr. Young received his BS and MS in Economics from Colorado State University.  He is an executive with extensive experience in B2C and B2B database marketing analytics and a track record of building and managing a high-performance and highly-profitable analytic consulting organization. Adept at consulting with a wide range of organizations on business and marketing challenges and architecting data-driven analytic solutions that enable significant improvements in sales and multi-channel marketing operations generating millions of dollars in cost savings and incremental revenue.

Mr. Young began with Epsilon in 1994 and is currently the Head of Analytics at Epsilon Corp.  Epsilon is an all-encompassing global marketing company which harnesses rich data, groundbreaking technologies, engaging creative and transformative ideas to get the results clients require.  Analytics India Magazine has a full interview with Mr. Young.

Mengqi (Maggie) Jin, ScM'15
Data Scientist, Novantas, Inc.

Ms. Jin is a Department alumnus, receiving her ScM in Biostatistics 2015, following her BS in Bioscience in 2012 from Lanzhou University.  After graduating from our Master’s program, Ms. Jin secured a position as a Data Scientist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.  She recently took the position of Data Scientist with Novantas in New York City.  Novantas is the industry leader in analytic advisory services and technology solutions for financial institutions.  We are very much looking forward to Ms. Jin’s visit to share her experiences as a Data Scientist and the important training she received here at Brown which prepared her for these positions.
