Brown Biostatistics Alumni in the UK

Brown Biostatistics alumni, Mark Fiecas, PhD ’12 and Li Su, PhD ’07 together at the Medical Research Council's Biostatistics Unit at the Cambridge Institute of Public Health in the UK on 24 May 2016.

Dr. Su is the Senior Investigator Statistician at MRC Biostatistics Unit and her work focuses on developing statistical methods for complex data structures motivated by collaborative longitudinal studies in rheumatology and cardiovascular diseases.  Dr. Su invited Dr. Fiecas to present his seminar entitled “Modelling the evolution of brain signals”.  Dr. Fiecas is a Harrison Early Career Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick in the UK.  His research focuses on the theoretical and methodological developments for analyzing high-dimensional time series data with special applications to neuroimaging data.

This was the first time the two had a chance to meet as Dr. Su completed her doctorate at Brown’s Biostatistics Department (then referred to as the Biostatistics Section of the Department of Community Health)  just before Dr. Fiecas began the doctoral program in 2007-08.   Dr. Fiecas shared, “It was great for both of us to reminisce about our time at Brown (especially about the people there!) and the developments of the program over the years.”

Thanks to both of you for sharing your collaborative meeting with us!
