Traces the development of Russian literature from realism to symbolism and decadence, from revolutionary experiments to socialist realism and dissent. Authors to be studied include Tolstoy, Chekhov, Sologub, Blok, Mayakovsky, Babel, Olesha, Zamiatin, Bulgakov, and Solzhenitsyn. Lectures and discussion. No knowledge of Russian required. WRIT
