Mohammad Mehdi Kimiagari is a PhD student in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies at Brown University. He holds an MA in English Literature from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, where he wrote a thesis on the zones of indeterminacy between aesthetics and politics, law and life, actors and non-actors in the state of exception. His interdisciplinary research gravitates to the intersections of performance studies, affect theory (shame-humiliation), and philosophy. His areas of interest include: Iranian theatre and cinema, Middle Eastern Studies, Islamic and political theatre, self-stigmatization, (un)framing and (un)veiling, performative resistance, and anxiety in performance. His writing has appeared in TDR/The Drama Review, Critical Inquiry, and Textual Practice.
