Filling and Refilling Your Prescriptions
We can fill most of your prescriptions as long as we have a written or telephone order from your provider or we can transfer refills from the pharmacy that originally filled the prescription.
We can also accept prescriptions from your home or community provider through Surescripts. We are listed as pharmacy "Brown University Health Services".
Call ahead anytime 401-863-7882 to refill your prescription and we will have it ready when you arrive during open hours. If a prescription has no refills, you may need to schedule an appointment with your provider for a new prescription before obtaining more medication.
Health Services does not prescribe them, but we can fill a prescription from an outside provider. If you need refills and ongoing management of depression or anxiety, call Counseling and Psychological Services at 401-863-3476 for assistance with your care.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) medications require a written prescription or be sent electronically to the pharmacy from your providers office or you can call 401-863-3953 for an appointment with a provider to discuss ADHD medications.
Health Services providers will need copies of your ADHD evaluation and testing in order to prescribe these medications.
How do I transfer my prescription(s) to the Brown University Pharmacy?
For the pharmacists to transfer any remaining refills on your previous prescription(s) to the Brown Pharmacy, you will need to call or stop by the pharmacy and give us:
- your name, student ID number and date of birth
- your previous pharmacy's name and phone number
- the name(s) of the medication(s) you want transferred, and the prescription number(s) if you have them.
The transfer process may take up to 24 hours during busy times, or if the medication needs ordering.
How do I transfer my prescription(s) from Brown University Pharmacy to another pharmacy?
Please ask your pharmacy to call the Brown University Pharmacy at (401) 863-7882 and the pharmacists will transfer the prescription along with any valid refill(s).
We accept most insurances. Please check your policy so that you are aware of the extent of your coverage and bring your insurance and prescription plan cards (or a copy).
If you have an insurance plan that we don't accept, you will need to pay the full cost of the prescription at the time of the purchase. We will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Pharmacy services are the financial responsibility of the patient. You can pay for your purchase by cash, check, credit or debit card, Bear Bucks card, or you can use your Brown ID to apply the charge to your Bursar's account; charges post on the Bursar bill as "Health Services Pharmacy" without detailing the purchase.
